Project Type: Hospitality Audio Design

Location: Soho, London

Year: 2023

Client: The Windmill Soho

SDS Role: Architectural Audio Consultancy

Project Context

Sonic Design Studios completed the audio system design for The Windmill, one of Soho's most established hospitality venues in London. Delivered in 2023, the project required a versatile audio infrastructure capable of supporting a highly diverse programme spanning intimate dining, live performance, and late-night use.

Design Constraint

The key design constraint was achieving absolute acoustic clarity at low volume levels during dining hours while retaining the capacity for significant acoustic authority when required for late-night events. This dynamic range had to be achieved without compromising the unique character of the space.

Sonic Concept

Our sonic concept relied on the strategic use of Pequod Acoustics loudspeakers. These units were discreetly integrated across multiple zones to deliver beautifully even coverage and a perfectly consistent tonal balance throughout the venue.

Integration Approach

For our integration moves, we paid particular attention to the auditory transitions between different spaces. This meticulous approach ensures a completely coherent and seamless listening experience as patrons move through the building.

Project Outcome

The final outcome is a highly adaptable multi-zone system that effortlessly supports The Windmill's diverse programming, transitioning flawlessly from relaxed intimate dining to highly energetic late-night events.
